Harbour Mews Broadstairs
Set within the picturesque town of Broadstairs, this former garage site proved challenging to maximise the site potetial and satisfy the strict requirements of the Local Authority Planners and Conservation Department.
The site had several challenging constriants, with high density development on four sides and a significant change of levels the scheme eventually was approved for eight luxury appartments and seven mews cottages.
Kinsgate Avenue
This small development of eight two bedroom appartments and one three bedroom house occupies a corner site within a much sought after area of Kingsgate. Vernacular styling blends within the street scene providing an appearence of two larger family dwellings of a more affluent era rather than individual appartments required by todays resident.
The development tidied up a site which had become run down and now adds further charecter to amost delightful area of Thanet.
Foreland Heights
The site was formerly part of the Foreland estate. 35 individual 4 bedroom executive homes in a contemporary style forms a much sought after residential estate. The pallet of materials ranged from brick, tile hanging, render and boarding adding individuality and interest to the site. Well manicured and landscaped gardens become a cohesive element defining boundaries and softening the harder edges.
Hampton Heights
Overlooking the sea on the clifftops of Herne Bay, this impressive development of two bedroom appartments fitted out to the highest standards replaced a rambling Victorian hotel which had reached the end of its economic life. The main feature of this development is the octangonal tower which turns the corner of the site and provides impressive views from the living spaces across the channel.
The scheme provided 23 appartments having two, three and four bedrooms.
Cannongate Ramsgate
A prominent town centre site, the Local Authority Conservation Architect worked closely with us to ensure the historic Victorian quarter was maintained with carefully detailed residential units.
Compared with todays often cramped space standards, this mix of appartments and town houses provided well laid out and spacious family accommodation. Parking was contained within a well landscaped courtyard to the rear of the units accessed via a arched entranced.
The scheme consisted of six three bedroomed town houses and twelve two bedroomed luxury appartments.
Sea Road
Overlooking the sea between Westgate and Birchington the plot demanded a design which capitalised on the vistas available. A split level layout allowed the main living area to be sited in an elevated position with a balcony wrapping around three sides. The master bedroom also overlooks the ocean and will often witness striking sunsets. The low pitched roofs and large projecting eaves gives the design an individuality to the local area.
Turner Heights
The site sits on a prominent corner on Cliftonville high street, this development consisted of 40 two bedroom apartments. The corner feature sat under a lead dome spanning 12 metres. Car parking sits to the rear of the site in a well landscaped courtyard.
The four storey building has a mansard roof line over face brick and monocouche rendered elevations. Stonework detailing of cills, lintels and string courses, assisted in making this prominent site blend harmoniously in the busy Cliftonville street scene.
The Warren Elham
A timber framed building based upon a Colt house, the client wished to extend the propety into the roof space and give greater visual interest to the property. Commanding impressive views across the Elham valley we designed an exoskeletal structure to provide support taking away loads from the timber frame envelope. This strategy allowed for a larger footplate than would have been available from a traditional loft conversion.
Royal Esplanade
A one off individually designed home sited on the clifftops of Westbrook overlooking the sea. The clients required maximum views of the ocean whilst sitting in the elevated living space. This was achieved by a large triple glazed panelled wall and projecting glass full height bays giving a 180 degree vista. The house is entered via a double height fully glazed hallway which floods light into the centre of the property.
Ofley Close
Eight bungalows and two houses occupies a former nursery site in a quiet exclusive area of Cliftonville. Designed as retirement properties the site has a shared accessway without footpaths. No cars are parked on this surface which gives an unencumbered serene quality about the cul-de-sac. Traditional materials and well maintained landscaping make this a desirable place to live.
The nameOfley close was given to the development not only because it took the developers name but also to mark the very difficult road gaining planning consent.
Industrial units are no longer uninteresting cavernous sheds to house machinery and equipment. We have experience of industrial park developments including infrastructure and landscaping as well as individual units designed bespoke to our Clients requirements.
We have completed schemes in Thanet, Heresden, Richborough and Deal and have been involved in masterplanning a major scientific business park of over one million square feet.
Herne Bay Golf Club
The clubhouse at Herne Bay had been added to over the years in an ad hoc fashion and consequently had a disjointed and unappealing appearence.
We undertook a major refurbishment which provided new changing facilities, club shop, bar and restaurant with new function suites and gymnasium at first floor level. With terraced dining and first floor balconies over looking the 18th hole this refurbishment gave the club a new lease of life.
Royal St Georges
Dr Laidlaw Purves of the Royal Wimbledon Golf Club, designed and established the main clubhouse in 1887. The Club was intended to serve the needs of London golfers who were only able to play their golf on often crowded and unkept courses in the area. Named St. George's, it was to become the English rival to Scotland's St. Andrew's. Royal status was bestowed on the Club by King Edward VII in May 1902.
We were commissioned to design a clubhouse for the Artisans which sits just off of the 18th hole. This work is to be completed before the Open in 2011.
The Crown Inn
The inn is made up of two former farm dwellings. The easterly most facing dwelling was built during the reign of King John (1199-1216) in the year 1208, and was part of the estate of nearby The remaining dwelling was built during the reign of Edward III (1327-1377) in the year 1340. Initially a farm dwelling and shepherd's cottage, it was this building that was later to become the "Crown".
The Inn changed hands in 2010 with the new owners wanting to develop the local once again into the heart of the community. Our role was to design a 40 seat restaurant together with an extension an refurbishment of the kitchen and public bar areas.
We are exceptionally pleased to have worked extensively with the John Townsend Trust on several of their sites in East Kent. At their working farm site at Monks Hill near Faversham, they teach their children and young adults all aspects of working with livestock.
We converted a former granary into a learning centre where the young people could understand the theory and Health and Safety aspects of life on a farm and working with animals and poultry. This facility has proved so popular that the Trust have opened up its use to other primary and secondary schools in the area.

Lydd Airport
To extend the life of a tired facility prior to a new state of the art building being commissioned the old baggage hall and departure lounge were completely refurbished to provide a new first class passenger lounge, customs and immigration area, toilets, showers, meeting rooms, kitchen and bar. Whilst undertaken to very strict budget constraints the end result was quite striking and will serve the airport for a further 3 years until such time approval is given to the much needed expansion of the site.
